How Things Have Changed!

Steven:  I think people are going mad!

The world has changed a lot in the last thirty years.

Now people seem to be obsessed with money. Always wanting more and more.

Desperately grabbing money wherever they can, and ripping off and taking advantage of others.



Mother:  Especially the rich.

No matter how much they have they are never satisfied.

The rich don't even want to pay their fair share in taxes

I read in a paper last night that twenty-six big US companies, which on average generated net income

of almost $1 billion in the US, paid their chief executives more last year than they paid the US

government in tax.



Steven:  Why do people let the rich get away with this behaviour?



Mother:  We should be able to stop them.

After all, if the super rich are, say, only 1% of the population, they have only 1% of the votes.

The trouble is that many people in the population are led to believe that they too may be able to

become super rich one day.

So they don't want to make changes that would make it harder for this to happen.
